Under 11 - round 12 - vs Killara West Pymble
The team gathered at Waitara Oval looking to avenge our close defeat at the hands of KWP in the last year's semis. Unfortunately, it was not to be as our opponents exhibited all the skills to dominate the game from the outset. They registered two tries before Hornsby even got their hands on the ball and demonstrated a very well structured attack and defence.
Nevertheless, the team showed spirit and fought hard to stay in the match but consistent pressure meant that we were always on the back foot and were forced to defend for extended periods. On the few occasions when we had the ball in hand, we could not retain possession and found that KWP were able to capitalise on even the slightest mistake.
There were passages of enterprising play with the highlight being a sneaky regather from a kick off which saw the two Nicks combine to score early in the second half raising hopes of a comeback. Josh and Charlie both put in some strong tackles and Hugh attacked from the base of the scrum as we continued to ask questions of the defence. Sadly, they seemed to have most of the answers.
It was disappointing result which saw us on the wrong side of a 5 to 51 scoreline. Our opponents dominated possession and were just too good for us on the day. With only a couple of games left in the season we hope that we can put of few good performances together and lay the foundations for a better season next year.
Man of the match honours went to Nick Lane who showed his typical tenacity and fought hard all game.
