Hornsby Junior Rugby Union Club

Well, a cloudy and cool start for our Round 11 match at Cliff Oval Wahroonga. It was set to be a huge clash of the “big cats”, the mighty Lions playing the fearsome Tigers. We were down three players but knew that Jack, Ben and Naasson were with us in spirit on the field.

Action got underway a little sluggishly as our boys negotiated the wet terrain, but they were quick to fire up and put on an impressive show for their red-eyed parents. First half saw some courageous tackling by Charlie and Jackson, those Tigers never knew what hit them. Some trademark bursts of speed from Hunter put some early points on the board, and he wasn’t about to let up there. Solid support play from Zach and Matthew gave the opposition few chances to answer, fantastic team-work boys. Robin covered well and caught the others out with some superb little runs. Joshua also made a couple of gutsy charges to keep those Tigers back-pedalling!

The second half saw the action cranked up to deafening proportions! I’m told you could hear the cheers from the other end of Hornsby as our lads hammered hard, more than doubling our first half score. Riki made some valiant attempts at relieving the opposition of the ball, great work matey.  Great mauling and reliable defence by Harry and Hugh plugged any holes pretty quickly, well done! Daniel powered through the defensive line-up and went over the line for a great try! Some big hits by Tevita and Dafyyd, followed up by some rip-roaring tries sealed the deal.

Riley had been hungry for the ball all game and his determination won him Man of the Match this week, what a champion! Best Effort Award went to the whole team this time around, what a super effort by all and a well-earned win! Thanks once again to the perseverance, encouragement and patience of our tireless coach Kieran and assistant Michael. It’s a pleasure to watch as each week sees the boys lift their game one notch higher and get in and have a go! The smiles on their faces afterwards say it all! Well done team!
