2011 Season Launch
2011 Season Launch was on Saturday 26th March at The Hornsby Inn. The night was preceeded by Hornsby's second round of trial matches at Kariong. It was a great day with good rugby weather and the boys had some great games against Kariong Rugby and Warnervale Rugby followed by some friendly drinks at The Kariong Tavern. Very special thanks to Chris Woutersz for organising the trial, it took alot of his time to align the three clubs and to reschedule at the last minute when the weather turned bad on the 19th. Great Work!
The day ended with a rowdy bus trip back to Waitara though the team practised thoroughly in preparation for the formalaties of the 'weighbridge'. After everyone was cleaned up and Happy had his hair just right the Lions headed to The Hornsby Inn for Season Launch.
First to arrive was Ian Crothers so scoring himself a Voucher for 2 beers. Another voucher to Dave Dixon for manager of the day, Ben Manion coach of the day and Glen Marks to celebrate what was 'approximately' his 50th trial match then the Super 15 and the games began!
First everyone was given a raffle ticket and whenever a try was scored in the Brumbies vs. Waratahs match a number was drawn and a voucher given out. Unfortunately it was a very slow match but we switched to any points in the second half and with 3 tries and plenty of penalty goals and conversions we had a few winners. Half time saw the Season Launch Rugby Quiz commence with teams having 15 minutes to complete the 12 questions. Congratulations go to Owen's team for a great victory with 10 of 12 questions correct with a Wild Turkey\Rugby Pack as their prize and vouchers for the runners up. For those who have forgotten it already Hornsby First Grade beat Waverley a staggering 57 points to 0 in the last round before the 2010 final series. Don't forget it again!!!
Following full time a quick test of people's stadium knowledge saw Ian Crothers take the crown and the Malibu prize pack in the Season Launch Stadium Quiz.
Thanks to all those who made the effort to attend and make the night such a success! On now to Round 1 next - see you at Waitara Oval.
