Match Reports from 2010

Away vs St Ives - Round 16

After a tough start to the season the Lions headed to St Ives needing a strong performance across all grades to increase their standing in the championship table.

Colts was first up and it was a close match however with tries to Feleti Alipate, Dannis Boyle and Sione Ala and great performances from Harry Morton and Josh Guthrie the boys managed to pull through.

With several regular players injured Four Grade was a club effort with a appearances from other grades filling the gaps. Fourth Grade captain Wehi Wright not only provided direction and brought his players together into a cohesive team but also scored a fantastic runaway try himself. The team got 4 tries and won the match 26 points to 12.

Third Grade continued their winning streak smashing the Saints 59 points to 10. This was the tenth win in a row for 3rd Grade and secured their position as Minor Premiers.

Second Grade was a disappointing game to watch culiminating in 17 points to nil loss and Ant Wouterz getting sent off.

After a nail-biting game First Grade took their second win of the season. With tried to David Chippendale and Daniel Guthrie the Lions took the game 14 points to 11.

2010 Crescent Heads 7 Competition - February 2010
Hornsby Rugby 7s

Armed with a couple of new recruits - I am pleased to report that the Hornsby Lions commenced the season with three wins out of four matches to take out second place in our pool. In stifling 35 degree heat (more kitty money was spent on Powerade than beer!) Victories were recorded over Kempsey, Wollongbar (who went on to win the Bowl division over Drummoyne Colts) and Narromine. We were beaten in the fourth game by Lloyd McDermott (an indigenous development squad).

Following a victory over Posties we found ourselves in the final for the second division plate against a very large and fast Drummoyne seniors squad who can only be described as units. Despite going down 38-17 these peanuts knew we were there and did not have it all their own way.

The guys performance on and off the field was fantastic as was Broomie's performance as Captain.

Special mentions to Jamie White, Ben Bryant and Eddie who threw intercept passes and Dean Pether who dropped the ball over the line. The penalty agreed before play was a case - we are waiting....

Top try scorer for the day was Mitch McGrath, followed by Phil Slade. Only downside was Bede's hamstring and Sam's ankle ligaments. Hope these are short term injuries and that the new recruits Sam, Dean and Chris enjoy their season with the lions.

Congrats to All the boys and Jacko and Nhut.
