**************************** Beer Olympics match report: **************************** Submitted by Rob Magrath Well what can be said, some people are just made for these sort of events and some aren’t! In a true test of speed, stamina, skill and ability-to-function -whilst-drunk, Bobby G blew his opponents off the park. Bobby started strong with the Tackle Bag Toss with the Piukala boys taking out the minor places, which pretty much set the tempo for the whole day. Strong performances throughout the Schooner Goal Kick, Egg Toss and Gauntlet meant he was never headed and finished a comfortable winner. As for the blue-ribbon event of the day, the much-hyped Iron Guts, it took an import to upstage the favoured Matt Piukala. Six people started, three finished, as is often the nature of the event. Josh Guthrie took an early lead and was never headed, which makes you wonder just what kind of chow gets served up in the Guthrie household every night. Cam Riddett failed early, not even attempting the dry WeetBix. 1 down, 5 runners left. Next to withdraw was Dave Piukala, who was no match for the cup of sardines confronting him. 2 out, four to go. When Tef balked at the raw mince burger there were three remaining, each with one steely eye on each other and one on the beer, egg and sardine mixture that was left fronting them. Josh powered it down without a second though, Matt eventually got his down, and half an hour later Rob drained the last of the god-awful concoction (having devised the mixture he never really had a choice). Other highlights for the day: - Jaimie getting absolutely rag-dolled in the Gauntlet, I’m sure it was more the beer than the gladiator spirit that had the brains-trust sending out the smallest man. - Cam nearly taking out the Schooner Goal Kick with his old school kicking methods and innovative handling technique – it had us all laughing early but more fool us hey? - Judge Reggie. Need I say more? ‘GUUUIIIIILLLLLLTY – I sentence you to THREEEEEEEEEEEEEE fingers!!!’ Enough said – can’t wait till the Judge’s next appearance on the semis bus trip. - Danny G pulling off his best tackle of the season to take down not one, but t wo of the colties strongest runners. We won’t mention the aftermath.. - Danny G again – not for beer Olympics, but for going out after it until the wee small hours when his BAC gave him absolutely no right to! - Duff never failing to answer the call to arms when ‘Here’s to Duffy…’ rings out across Hornsby. - And plenty more than I can’t remember, as pretty much everyone who turned up provided a laugh at one stage or another. A great day for all, thanks to all the boys (and girls) that showed up, safe to say we all had an awesome time. Our next shindig will likely be the bus trip to the semis so pump up, start preparing your defenses coz Kangaroo Court will be back in session, the Judge will be in attendance and hopefully we’ll have a couple of wins to celebrate! Remember, if you’ve got any ideas for social functions don’t hesitate to talk to Rob or anyone from the Committee - we’re open to ideas and more than happy to work with you if you’ve got something with potential. **************************** 4TH GRADE REPORT **************************** Submitted by Ian Crothers Hornsby 19 vs UNSW 26 One of our better performances for the year Vs second placed Uni - we lost, but it was very close! With several of our regular guys unavailable it was again a case of throwing a team together somewhat at the last minute. Nonetheless, we played really well as a team – taking the game right to the wire with the result not clear until the final play. Good performances from all the boys today but most notably Tony Hannay (3 points), Rob McGrath (2 points) and Trent Withers (1 point). This essentially ends our semi final chances for this year, but there is plenty of footy left to be played over these last few weeks and it would be great to end the season with a few more points on the board! Let’s work towards a solid performance Vs Barker this week and then a couple of big upsets when we take on Waverley and Lindfield. See you at training on Thursday guys.
