**************************** 1ST GRADE REPORT **************************** Submitted by Rob Magrath Hornsby 46 - Briars 29 Top effort on Saturday boys, 46-29 to the good guys and it was great to be back in the winners circle! We spoke about the hunger before the game and started just as we left off against Briars last time. The forwards controlled the ruck well, allowing the backs to get clean ball with forward momentum early and before Briars had blinked they were down 17-0. A 15 minute lapse by the Lions before half-time had a few spectators shaking their heads and muttering “not again” – little did they know that the Lions had come to play today. Still, at 17-15 ahead at half-time we had probably given Briars more of a sniff than they deserved. The 2nd half started well with the boys determined that this one wouldn’t slip away. Running home to a vocal Crowd Corner, Horns turned it up a notch and began wrestling the match away. Reggie got more vocal with every try we scored, stalking along our 10m line before each kick-off screaming for MORE POWER, MORE POWER!!, something I’m used to hearing through his closed bedroom door but rarely on the footy field. Brad W8ed until L8 in the game to shut the G8 on the visitors and cross for another GR8 try, with Briars surely H8ing the sight of our highly R8ed no.13 by this time – top work M8, no doubt Saturday is a D8 you’ll remember for a while. Jaimie had a great game in his 2nd start in first grade, shying away from nothing at no.10 and unleashing the outside backs for a few five-pointers. Et Flo est incroyable dans le premier match de foot - Il a merit le homme de la match! Other highlights for the day: - Tini showing a foolish Briars runner first-hand why we call Waitara Oval ‘the Rock’. - Ben Collins corner tackle on the poor Briars winner who was left wondering how he drew the short straw on the George Gregan-Jeff Wilson re-enactment scene. - Jack’s Superman effort diving over the ruck to score a try – wouldn’t have been out of place on the NFL highlights. - And of course, as the crowd so vocally acknowledged at the time, Errol’s tap move in Crowd Corner – always nice when something you train for comes off. On that note it was good to see Cam prove that he CAN actually tackle as well as Errol’s daughter, and Meadsy show that he prefers to run into opposition players than kiss them! All in all a great show by the Lions, everyone pulled their weight and we deserved the win. Next victim is Barker, so let’s unleash the fury again and we’ll send them home crying to their butlers and chauffeurs! MORE POWER!!! 3 points – Flo 2 points – Jaimie 1 point – Dicko **************************** 4TH GRADE REPORT **************************** Submitted by Ian Crothers Briars 12 – Hornsby 5 Firstly, well done to Anthony Woutersz – 100 games today! That makes 3 x 4th graders who have hit this mark this year, with Rob Mooney and Antony Hannay reaching theirs a few weeks back. This was a really important game for us, but unfortunately, we didn’t quite get there. We started well with a nice try to Feleti, but after that we seemed to really struggle to get out of our own half for much of the game. We had a few chances late in the game but in the main, we just didn’t play to our potential. We now have 4 games to go and we are in 6th place, 7 points out for the top 4. It’s not impossible, but given we are yet to play the top 3 teams, it’s going to be tough. See you at training guys – let’s give it a good crack anyway! Points this week went to Junior (3), Lilo (2) and Wayde (1)
